General Services

Services to our Neighbors are provided free of charge, which has been made possible by the generosity volunteers and donors. Our volunteers do not accept payments, tips nor reimbursement for their assistance.

Follow these three simple steps, and get enrolled in three weeks or less:

  1. Initial call: Call our office (this initial call must come from the potential Neighbor, not from anyone on his or her behalf) to learn more about our services and to provide the information we need to assess your needs and determine if you qualify for services.
  2. In-person interview. If qualified, one of our friendly volunteer intake coordinators will contact you to set up a time to visit you at home to gather additional information about your situation and how we can assist you. This visit lasts one to two hours.
  3. Application review. Following the in-person interview, our Program Director will review your application, and we will then immediately notify you if you qualify for services.

You can request transportation services as soon as your enrollment has been approved. We will assign you a volunteer who can accompany you to the grocery store, handle pick-ups or deliveries, drive you to the doctor or dentist, and provide other services as needed.

Because the enrollment process can take a few weeks, we are not typically able to accommodate “next day” requests, so we ask that you plan accordingly.

We do not provide any monetary assistance; however, the services we provide come at no cost to our Neighbors.

Yes! Our medical supply loan closet is open to everyone. The loan is free of charge, but we do ask that you return the item if or when you no longer need it. Available items may vary.

Transportation Services

By escorted transportation, we mean that our volunteers provide “door-through-door” services:  they meet you at your door, they escort you to their vehicle, they stay with you during your appointments or other errands, and they escort you to your door when you return home.

Our volunteer transportation services are restricted to “essential” destinations only. This includes medical or legal appointments, pharmacies, grocery stores, banks, social services and support groups, as well as nursing homes to visit a family member.

We can also take your pets to the vet; however, we are not able to transport our Neighbors to “non-essential” destinations, such as hair salons, restaurants or other people’s homes.

No. Volunteers provide rides using their personal vehicles, which are typically not equipped to accommodate wheelchairs.

With minimal assistance, volunteers can provide a steady arm momentarily. They are not able to lift or pull; however, if a person can be transferred unassisted from their walker or wheelchair in and out of a vehicle, they can be transported.

No. Assisted living facilities have vehicles to provide transportation services for their residents.

No. We provide services only to those in our community who are unable to drive due age, disability, or vision loss.

Yes! However, because our enrollment process may take a few weeks, we recommend contacting us well in advance of your surgery date so we can provide the services you need when the time comes.

PWC does not own any vehicles.  All transportation is provided through volunteers’ personal vehicles. With this in mind, please let us know if you are unable to get in and out of certain types of vehicles so we can better accommodate you.

Other Services

No. Our volunteers assist with non-medical services only.  If you require nursing care, we suggest speaking with your medical provider.

No. Our volunteers do not provide cooking, cleaning or yard care services. See the full list of our services.

Volunteering

Volunteering with us is flexible and easy. We want our volunteers to be able to do what they can, when they can. Get started in three easy steps:

  1. Attend an informational volunteer orientation, hosted at our Prescott office on the third Wednesday of each month from 1:30 – 3:30 pm. Please call our office at (928) 445-2480 to confirm your attendance beforehand. At the orientation, you’ll learn all about what we do, who we serve and the many ways you can help.
  2. Fill out this application form and provide a copy of your driver’s license and automobile insurance card. We’ll also perform a mandatory background check with fingerprinting.
  3. Once all is completed and approved, you can begin volunteering with us, on your terms.

Most personal automobile insurance policies cover passengers. As part of our enrollment process, outlined above, you will need to provide proof of vehicle insurance. People Who Care also carries broad liability insurance coverage secondary to yours.

Yes. If requested, we reimburse our volunteers for mileage they incur when using their vehicles to provide services.

Donations

Absolutely! Monetary donations help our organization operate, support our volunteers and ensure that we can provide services at no cost to our Neighbors. Learn more about ways to give back and/or donate today.

Yes. PWC has a Medical Equipment Loan Closet, and we accept donations of many assistive medical products, including low vision devices and aids. Please contact us at (928) 445-2480 for more information about what products we accept
